Unlock Intuition, Insight and Inner Peace by Meditating With Your Tarot Cards

Let's talk about tarot and meditation.

Two spiritual powerhouse practices that when combined, become the ultimate duo. Like cookies and cream, or crystals and moonlight, they are two peas in a pod, two sides of the same coin.

If you have ever pulled and stared at it like it held the answers to the universe (and you know that it does), you are already halfway to meditating with tarot. This practice isn't just for mystics in a candlelit room, no! It is for anyone who wants to deepen their intuition, heal their heart or stop doom scrolling for 5 or so minutes.

Why meditate with your cards?

Tarot meditation is not about trying to decode a rigid dictionary of meanings. It is about slowing down, tuning in and letting the cards whisper (or sometimes shout) what they mean to you.

Here's what makes it magic:

  1. Develop your own interpretations

When you meditate on a single card, it's just you, the card and your breath, you begin to form a relationship with it. You will find that you notice the colours, the expressions, the dishevelled looking cat sitting front and centre on the IX of Pentacles or the weird little dog that is nipping at the Fools heels. Suddenly, you are not just memorising the meanings, you are building understanding - your own understanding and noticing things you may not have seen ore sensed before.

This practice helps you to:

  • Connect to the imagery without overthinking it

  • Tune in to what the card evokes emotionally and intuitively

  • Letting go of "getting it right". It allows you to embrace what feels true

Try this: Sit with the High Priestess and follow my see, feel and know method.

What do you see first? Her crown, her half exposed scroll, her moon crown or maybe the water behind her. Each symbol or element has something to teach or share something with you. BUT you will only hear, see or sense it if you slow down enough to listen.

  1. Deepen your intuition

Your intuition is a muscle. Meditating with a card is like giving it gym session! (you get out of it what you put into it!!)

By sitting in stillness with the card you can:

  • Learn to trust what you feel, not just what a guided book says (but then you all know how I feel about those books)

  • Receive images, words or sensations from your subconscious

  • Start recognising patterns and symbols in your daily life

Over time, you will hear that quiet inner voice more clearly-- whether you are reading the cards or just navigating your life. You will be strengthening your connection to your soulful self!

  1. Access deeper meanings

Sometimes a card won't give up all its secrets at once. Meditation is the key to unlocking those deeper, juicier layers.

Meditate on the Tower and you might go beyond destruction and chaos into themes like freedom, divine intervention or even the death of the ego (Yikes!!)

When you spend time feeling the card instead of just reading it, you begin to access:

Archetypal wisdom

Personal symbolism from and for your own life

Connections between the cards (Hence the Fools Journey!)

  1. Expand your symbol awareness

We often rush through spreads and layouts without noticing the details: the falling leaves, the angle of a sword or the landscape in the background.

In meditation, these subtle symbols have time to speak. The yellow sky in the Magician might suddenly feel like optimism. The infinity symbol might remind you of your own limitless potential.

Your deck becomes a language, and meditation is one way on how you learn to speak it fluently.

The Fools Journey as a Therapeutic Meditation

Each card in the major arcana represents a moment or a level of learning on the Fools Journey - a soul's path through transformation.

Meditating your way through the majors is like embarking on a soul pilgrimage, with each card being a sacred stop along the way.

  • The Fool invites you to embrace your need for adventure , new beginnings and surrender

  • The Empress can awaken your need for self care and creativity

  • Death becomes less scary and more about necessary shedding

  • The star offers hope when you need it the most

You can use this journey to:

  • Reflect on your life path

  • Heal past wounds

  • Make peace with uncertainty

  • Guide your self through transition and trauma

Meditating through the major arcana is like walking yourself back home, one archetype at a time.

Remember to Journal it

Tarot meditation is powerful and writing it down seals the deal so to speak - it helps bed down your learnings.

After your meditation:

  • Record what you saw, felt, heard or sensed

  • Write down any symbols or words that popped up

  • Note how you felt before and after the meditation

  • Track reoccurring themes, as this could be insights into your shadow or snippets of your future!!

Over time you will start to build your own tarot wisdom book - one that reflects you and your insights! It will be unique, intuitive and deeply aligned with your voice.
